A Study on Height and Weight of Infants by Month of Age in Korean

Abstract
The height and weight of infants who were born in 1994 and registered on Kyung
Hee Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics were measured from birth to 12 months of
age and recorded for each infant¡¯s age, sex, body height and weight respectively. The
physical and nutritional indices were evaluated based on above growth data. The total
numbers were 10,681 comprising 5,449 males, 5,232 females.

The result obtained are as follows:
The average height at birth was 50.0¡¾2.2cm in male and 50.0¡¾2.0cm in female. The
average height at 12 month of age was 82.0¡¾5.4cm in male and 81.0¡¾ 3.7cm in female.
The average increase of height from birth to 12 months of age was 32.0cm in male
and 31.0cm in female. The average weight at birth was 3.3 ¡¾0.4kg in male and 3.2¡¾0.4kg in female. The average weight at 12 month of age was 10.6¡¾ 1.4kg in male and 10.1¡¾ 1.2kg in female. The average increase of weight from birth to 12 months of age was 7.3kg in male and 6.9kg in female. The relative weight was increased continuously from birth to 12 months of age as they grew older in both sexes. The R hrer index was decreased continuously from birth to 12 months of age as they grew older in both sexes.
The Kaup index showed the same pattern as the R hrer index.
